For everyone Justice and fairness for members

The AEU legal team prioritises equality, justice and fairness, and collaboration and compassion in our work. The team is focused on achieving AEU members’ collective and individual goals.

Some individual matters we have recently advised on include the successful resolution of multiple unfair dismissal claims; assisting members to challenge the refusal of their teacher registration through tribunal proceedings in VCAT; and helping members respond to VIT inquiries into their suitability and fitness to teach by preparing submissions and advocating on their behalf.

We have also lodged Freedom of Information (FOI) review applications with the Department of Education and Training (DET), challenging DET decisions not to release information relevant to our members; and solved multiple ongoing cases related to underpayments, discrimination claims, termination of employment and other disciplinary outcomes.

Working in education is often demanding, taking both a physical and mental toll. Members benefit from advice and representation in many types of employment law matters, from unfair dismissal to contract advice, underpayments and discrimination.

Ultimately, AEU membership means you have the support, advice and representation you need should unexpected or difficult circumstances arise.
