On 14 June, the AEU launched Respect + Resources = Quality Education campaign. The first action was for members to post a comment on their local MP’s Facebook page – as well as those of other key Labor MPs, including Premier Andrews, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Merlino, and Parliamentary Secretary for EC Sonya Kilkenny.

We asked members to share personal stories on why it was so important for the state government to provide wage justice for educators, pay parity for early childhood teachers with their colleagues in schools, and clauses that alleviate workload pressures.

Members left more than 250 comments on MPs’ social media pages. Although it may feel like an action like this has no impact, we know that MPs have taken notice.

As a follow up, 180 members joined an online campaign meeting, where they were asked to email or phone their local MP. Many members took this action and received responses from their MP. It’s not too late for other members to join in.

Leadership are continuing to plan the next steps of the campaign. Please look out for further communications on how you can contribute over the coming weeks.
